Herb Avery is known as “The Sound of CNN.” His music has played an integral part in the style and brand for over 30 years, beginning with their award-winning coverage of the first Gulf War in the early ’90s. His theme currently accompanies James Earl Jones on the official “This is CNN” ID, as well as the Breaking News theme, the Political Theme, and many other of the network’s most popular prime time and daytime broadcasts. It’s safe to say his music has changed the landscape and impact of television news, and is even inspiration for this sketch on The Daily Show.

Thomas has taken up the mantle in recent years, supporting Herb and creating his own pieces for Fareed Zakaria GPS along with many specials and opens for CNN International.
